Collard greens belong to the Acephala group of Brassica oleracea (same species as kale and cabbage) and are grown for their large, dark‑green edible leaves rather than heads. They are popular in East Africa under the local name sukuma and form a staple leafy vegetable in many diets. Collards are nutritious and can be harvested multiple times as leaves regrow.
